Estimated for 2007-2008 is the arrival of 26 new 300mm fabs coming online

According to The Information Network, 2007 will be a washout for semiconductor equipment revenue growth – but wait until 2008,We are currently tracking 17 new 300-mm fabs coming online in 2008 and 9 300mm fabs in 2007. We are also tracking an additional 55 300mm fabs that will be adding capacity through 2008. We estimate that these fabs will add 680,000 wafer starts per month in 300mm capacity on top of the current capacity of 2.1 million 300mm wafer starts per month. This represents more than a 32% increase in 300mm capacity."The added capacity will equate to a 22% increase in revenues for 2008," noted Dr. Robert Castellano, president of The Information Network. "Equipment sales have moved from 3 year cycles prior to 2001 to 1 year cycles, with huge revenue swings between peaks and valleys, and 2008's 22% revenue growth will come on top of a 2% drop in revenues in 2007."
