Singulus Technologies (SINGULUS) a Germany based company has announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire a 51% interest in Stangl Semiconductor Equipment (STANGL), also based in Germany. This transaction enables Stangl to achieve faster growth and targeted expansion of its own solar product line. The collaboration in thin-film technology is aimed at achieving good market position as a system supplier.CEO Hans-Jürgen Stangl commented, "Singulus is a company with material strength and technological know-how that enables us to realise our own our growth strategy in the booming solar industry. Particularly with regard to increased product standardisation, we anticipate Singulus will provide us with effective support." "As a member of the Singulus Group, we expect the dynamic growth of Stangl in the international solar systems market to be strengthened even further. For instance, we plan to combine competence of Singulus in thin-film technology with the expertise of Stangl in wet chemistry processes in order to collectively offer an even broader range of products that cover the value chain for production of silicon and thin-film solar cell areas. Naturally, we also wish to take advantage of Singulus's worldwide sales and customer service network," said Hans-Jürgen Stangl, Chairman of the Executive Board of Stangl Semiconductor Equipment."Stangl is the first transaction outside of our traditional working area of optical disc production systems. Stangl offers us immediate and strategically important market access to the booming solar industry", said Stefan A. Baustert, Chairman of the Executive Board of Singulus Technologies.Singulus will initiate a development project in Kahl to produce its own vacuumdeposition systems for solar cells by mid-2008 in combination with Stangl systems. "I am pleased that Hans-Jürgen and Wolfgang Stangl have made long-term personal commitments to our Group and will serve in senior management positions with responsibility for the future development and expansion of the new photovoltaic business area. This puts us in a position to take advantage of the opportunities for growth of both organisations offered by the solar energy market" concluded Baustert.
