ISA's Vision Summit 2008 brings together the global semiconductor leadership in Bangalore

The India Semiconductor Association (ISA), the trade body representing the Indian semiconductor driven industry, hosted Vision Summit 2008 at The Leela Palace, Bangalore, the annual event, which brought in leaders from the Government, academia and the global electronic eco system in Bangalore. The Chief Guest Jairam Ramesh, Minister of State for Commerce, Government of India inaugurated Vision Summit.
The Guests of Honour were M Madhavan Nambiar IAS, Special Secretary of the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology Government of India and Stanley T Myers, President & CEO, SEMI. Also present at the inauguration was Azim H. Premji, Chairman, Wipro and eminent personalities from electronic eco system.

Chief Guest Jairam Ramesh released the India semicon directory at the inauguration. Reinforcing the importance of the event, he said, “I congratulate the ISA for their active role in bringing in the semiconductor policy. Dayanidhi Maran played an invaluable role in bringing out the semiconductor policy. Semiconductor policy is a historic milestone, which was brought together by ISA and Maran. The fab city in Hyderabad which is spread across 1200 acres has confirmations from seven companies and who have invested 7 billion for a ten year period. Five are principal approved and have invested 1 billion for a ten year period. There are 5 new proposals which are there for active consideration and they contribute for 6 billion to 7 billion for a ten year period. The two drivers for demand are private drivers and public drivers. We need to focus on the public sources of demand. The next frontier for scaling up is the semiconductor eco system."

The keynote address was delivered by Azim H. Premji. Addressing the gathering he said, “Great pleasure to be here. First time we have witnessed a summit like this in Bangalore. This showcases the importance for the software and hardware sector. I congratulate ISA team for the admirable job in putting up a summit of this stature in the course of one year. This convention is an endorsement of the electronics industry that this city represents. There has been an evolution in the Indian electronics market. Indian firms have learnt the best practices and have developed India as an IT hub. Innovative design will play a role and contribute to the growth of the country.”


The presence of M Madhavan Nambiar IAS further reinforced the pivotal role with the segment in India today plays driving a global economy. At the event, Mr. Janakiraman, Chairman, India Semiconductor Association said, "Vision Summit is an opportunity for the semiconductor industry to come together, share knowledge and plan for the industry. With the presence of global speakers and focused discussions the summit provides momentum for the semiconductor sector."

Speaking at the occasion, Poornima Shenoy, President, India Semiconductor Association said, “ISA is driven by the business interest of its members who are in design and manufacturing as also are key components of the semicon eco-system. ISA realizes the importance of credible research data and continues to work on strengthening it. The semiconductor eco-system is developing fast and is visible across sectors. The growth of ISA mirrors the aspirations of the industry. Vision Summit 2008 will chart its path for the coming year.”

The day one of Vision Summit witnessed the presence of eminent personalities from the electronic eco system, Government, academia and the media. Focused sessions were moderated by global speakers and they addressed topics like semiconductor design eco-system, Indian telecommunication market and Opportunities at the base of the pyramid. The day one ended with a networking dinner followed by a cultural programme which showcased Karnataka's rich culture.
