IC test equipment producer Credence Systems has announced additional headcount reductions and the adoption of other cost-cutting measures. The reduction of force includes the elimination of 173 people or 14% of the companys global employee base. Approximately 160 positions in the USA will be affected.

National Semiconductor is immediately closing its Cellular Baseband unit.
The company continues to seek a buyer for its Information Appliance activity
based on the Geode processor. The companys Q4 ends on March 25, 2003.
During that quarter 340 job losses will be added to reductions of 500 in Q3.
By next quarter, the company will employ 9200 people.
