High Powered LED
A low thermal resistance (25K/W) enables the higher operating current. The spectral range is 385-950nm.The actual chip size can be 250x250-1000x1000microns. The HL-LED can handle power dissipation up to 1500mW instead of the 80mW of conventional surface mount (SMD) LEDs.
The company is seeking technical co-operation in terms of marketing agreements and information exchange with industrial partners from all sectors developing applications with light - general lighting, signalling, displays, etc. The aim is to develop new applications of the LED. To be used, the HL-LED would need improved thermal management of substructures such as printed circuit boards (PCBs).
Some potential uses are airfield lighting systems (coloured and white), internal and external illumination, automotive signalling and architectural displays.
Patents have been applied for but not yet granted.
