OMRON introduces Detection Module for clean suit environments
OMRON Electronic Components has launched the B5T-007003 Human Vision Component (B5T HVC-P2), a module specialized for human body detection in cleanroom environments where workers wear protective garments.
As robotics and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) become more deeply integrated into semiconductor, inspection, and food processing facilities to maintain productivity and reduce contamination risks, ensuring safe human-robot interaction has become a critical operational requirement. Human workers remain both a contamination risk and a potential safety concern in automated areas, requiring real-time monitoring to prevent unexpected behaviors, unsafe actions, or accidental entry into robotic operating zones.
Built on OMRON’s proven B5T hardware platform, the B5T HVC-P2 maintains the same compact camera architecture while introducing specialized firmware and software optimized for detecting workers wearing clean suits. The module is engineered to recognize human presence even when body shape and visual cues are altered by protective garments.
The B5T HVC-P2 can detect humans in clean suits with multiple viewing angles, including overhead, oblique overhead, and looking up views. These configurable detection models are selectable via command, enabling equipment designers to optimize performance based on installation position and machine layout.
Other features and benefits of the technology include:
Human detection only, not inanimate objects
Lower cost compared to cloud-connected alternatives
Enhanced security through offline operation – no cloud connection required
Parameters and settings can be modified through the support tool
“Cleanrooms are becoming increasingly sophisticated, with advanced robotics working alongside human operators,” said Evelyn Martinez, product manager at OMRON Electronic Components. “The B5T HVC-P2 enables equipment manufacturers to implement reliable, cost-effective human detection that protects workers, safeguards automation systems and supports contamination control – all without relying on cloud connectivity.”
As human detection becomes a standard safety feature in factory automation, the B5T HVC-P2 positions OMRON to address the growing demand for integrated, algorithm-enabled camera modules that bridge the gap between basic camera sensors and complex cloud-based AI systems.
