Lam Research plans to expand Singapore workforce

News

Lam Research plans to hire approximately 200 new roles in Singapore this year.

With nearly 90% of these newly added positions intended to be within specialized engineering and technical roles, the planned workforce expansion signals Lam’s continued investment in strengthening its capabilities in Singapore as the industry moves toward the next phase of innovation.

The expansion comes amid accelerating global demand for advanced semiconductor manufacturing driven by AI and increasingly sophisticated chip architectures. With worldwide semiconductor industry revenue projected to exceed US$1 trillion in 2026, according to industry forecasts, Lam is accelerating its focus on advanced process technologies and packaging innovations which will require skilled talent.

Developing Expertise for the Future of Semiconductor Manufacturing

The new roles will reach into some of the most challenging domains of modern chipmaking including high bandwidth memory (HBM), 2.5D and 3D integration, silicon photonics (SiP) and co-packaged optics (CPO), panel-level packaging, and tool and service intelligence technologies, all of which are critical in enabling the next generation of AI and high-performance computing.

The expanded workforce is expected to build upon Lam’s over three decades of operations in Singapore, further enhancing its local technology expertise and strengthening its close collaboration with customers and partners to address evolving semiconductor technology challenges across the region.

Lam’s Commitment to Singapore’s Semiconductor Industry

Beyond expanding its workforce, Lam continues to invest in developing the next generation of semiconductor talent through engagements with local institutions such as Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).

These initiatives expose students to potential career paths and help them gain practical insights into the semiconductor industry.

According to the Singapore Economic Development Board, the country produces one in ten of the world's chips, underlining why deep engineering talent is now so critical to the region. Lam's expansion contributes real momentum to the national ambition, growing high-value engineering capability on home ground and helping to anchor the expertise the sector will rely on for years to come.

“Singapore’s semiconductor ambitions are built on the strength of its people, and the demand for deep engineering talent has never been greater,” said Andrew Goh, Corporate Vice President and General Manager for Southeast Asia at Lam Research. “By expanding our local footprint, we are investing in the people who will drive the next generation of chipmaking, while strengthening the specialized talent pipeline to sustain Singapore’s leadership in semiconductor innovation.”

Ang Wee Seng, Executive Director, Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association said, "Singapore's standing as one of the world's leading semiconductor hubs rests on its ability to continually develop world-class talent. Lam Research's continued investment in Singapore underscores the confidence that global semiconductor companies have in our talent and innovation ecosystem. As companies expand specialized engineering capabilities and deepen partnerships with our Institutes of Higher Learning, they contribute not only to their own growth, but to the longterm strength and resilience of Singapore's semiconductor ecosystem."

Empowering Singapore’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Edge

Lam's commitment to its people is reflected in its recognition as one of Singapore’s Best Employersfor the second consecutive year, ranking 34th nationwide in 2026. The award underscores the company’s commitment to providing meaningful career opportunities and fostering an environment where employees can develop highly specialized skills, while contributing meaningfully to progressing the world’s semiconductor technologies.

As the sector continues to evolve, Lam continues to strengthen partnerships across industry and academia, building on Singapore’s talent and innovation ecosystem to advance semiconductor technologies.
