DISKCON's opening speech by Molecular Imprints

News
Molecular Imprints to deliver opening address on lithography trends for the hard disk drive (HDD) industry at DISKCON USA.
The company, a provider of nanopatterning systems and solutions, announces that Paul Hofemann, the company's vice president of marketing and business development for hard disk drive (HDD) and emerging markets, will be the opening speaker for the special lithography conference sessions next week at the DISKCON USA conference. Hofemann's presentation, titled "The hard disk drive industry: driving areal density and lithography," will explore new lithography strategies for overcoming the challenging cost and resolution requirements facing the HDD industry.

"In order to fulfil the needs of future consumer and industrial electronic systems, the HDD industry must push memory densities for next generation drives to well beyond one Terabyte per square inch," stated Hofemann. "This aggressive technology roadmap necessitates the introduction of patterned media and new lithography strategies. Molecular Imprints has been working closely with leading HDD manufacturers and co-suppliers to develop the next generation nanopatterning solutions the industry requires. Today there is considerable progress to report, and a map to the HDD industry's lithography future is materialising."

Driven by the need to substantially enhance storage capacities and decrease cost, HDD companies are increasingly turning to Molecular Imprints' high resolution, low cost of ownership nanopatterning systems for their discrete track recording and bit patterned media development and pilot production efforts.
