Toshiba to close Japanese plants
According to reports in the Japanese media the chip giant is planning to close some Japanese based manufacturing plants.
According to local media in Japan Toshiba Corp plans to close assembly plants for system and discrete chips in Japan and move the activities to plants in Thailand and Malaysia as well as use outside suppliers.
The company plans to slash production costs as they have already announced an expected annual loss that may be as high as 200 billion yen ($2.3 billion).
Toshiba is the number 2 manufacturer of NAND flash memory and is suffering along with other memory makers in the current financial slow down.
