Joint venture for power semiconductors
Infineon and Bosch sign a collaboration contract
Robert Bosch GmbH, Stuttgart, has signed a cooperation agreement with Infineon Technologies AG, Neubiberg (Germany), under which the two companies will collaborate in the field of power semiconductors. As a manufacturer of semiconductors for automotive technology, Bosch will be granted a license to use Infineon's technology to manufacture low-voltage power MOSFETs (metal-oxide-silicon field-effect transistors).
"This will strengthen our position when it comes to manufacturing electronic components and systems for controlling high electrical power," says Dr. Volkmar Denner, president of the Bosch Automotive Electronics division. And he adds: "In particular, this will extend the range of products we can deliver for new drive technologies in cars, such as hybrid drives and fully electrical drives, and will boost our innovative strength as the global leading supplier of automotive technology."
Infineon chairman Peter Bauer sees his company's position in a long-term growth market fortified by this alliance: "We are the global leader for power semiconductors, and have achieved a significant, sustained technological lead in this field. Together with the innovative company Bosch, we want to further improve the energy efficiency of electrical components in vehicles. In a long-term growth market, this collaboration will allow us to drive forward the further development of the basic technology from which new product generations are born."
The cooperation agreement between the two companies also includes a second-source arrangement. In parallel to Bosch semiconductor manufacturing in Reutlingen, Infineon will manufacture components developed in accordance with these processes and supply them to Bosch.
Through this alliance, Bosch rounds off the range of manufacturing processes used at its wafer fab in Reutlingen. At the same time, the technology company strengthens its foothold in the efficient energy management business field.
