Mattson receives order for etch systems from memory customer
Mattson Technology has announced that a major 300 mm memory manufacturing facility in Asia has placed its first follow-on order for the Company's Nexion etch system. The Company noted that the customer has accepted the 2 tools currently at its site for testing and performance verification. With this order, Mattson Technology has multiple tools in volume production in the customer's advanced DRAM production line.

Mattson's innovative Nexion system targets high volume dielectric etch applications and broadens the Company's future growth opportunities by doubling its total available market (TAM). David L. Dutton, president and CEO, noted, "We are pleased that our customer has expressed further confidence in Mattson Technology by securing their first repeat order for our Nexion etch product. This order is of particular significance and represents an inflection point for the Company. Our entrance into the adjacent growth market of dielectric etch was a strategic decision to expand our technical expertise and market leadership positions in Rapid Thermal Processing (RTP) and Strip. Mattson's Nexion system is unique in that it offers our customers improved process performance and leading Cost-of-Ownership (CoO) in this fast growing yet cost sensitive market. In the ultra competitive etch segment, this follow-on order from our long-term customer validates Mattson's etch technology at the leading edge of memory and further positions the Company for growth upon a return to more normalized market conditions."

Randy Matsuda, senior vice president and general manager of Mattson Technology's Plasma Product Group, noted, "Mattson's unique ability to fine tune energy levels in the etching plasma provides our customers with enhanced ability in transistor formation, which is becoming more critical with each technology node." Matsuda added, "The Mattson Nexion system has been established as production tool of record for critical dielectric etch applications, and our customer is closely engaged with Mattson in the development of their future etch technology and applications."

Matsuda concluded, "We are committed to supporting our customer's expanded production capabilities in the future and their growth strategy to meet their customers' anticipated demand for leading-edge semiconductors, telecommunications, and digital convergence technology."
