18 Indicted for Stealing Samsung Semiconductor Technology

South Korean prosecutors have indicted 18 people for stealing Samsung semiconductor technology and passing it to rival Hynix Semiconductor Inc, the AP reports. Some of the people involved in the scandal are employees of US-based Allied Materials and its South Korean branch.

Prosecutors say Allied employees, who had access to Samsung's core technology as they participated in the installation and maintenance of Samsung's manufacturing equipment, obtained the technology and passed it to Hynix.

"We are very concerned by this transgression, as it is likely to damage the semiconductor market," Samsung spokeswoman Lee Soo-jeong told the AP.
