Capitalizing on Europe's Strengths

News
The focus of upcoming ISS Europe Symposium
The SEMI Europe Industry Strategy Symposium (ISS Europe) 2011 will be held in Grenoble from 27 February to 1 March 2011. The annual symposium convenes industry leaders to debate critical issues facing the semiconductor industry in Europe. Attendees learn new information from top analysts and experts, with opportunities for networking and collaborating with industry leaders on strategies to help their companies thrive in a competitive global marketplace.

This year's guest speakers include Richard Koo, chief economist of Nomura Research Institute, and Prof. Dr. Elgar Fleisch of the University of St. Gallen who will present on "The Internet of Things." Presentations from top analysts and experts from IC Sights, Future Horizons and CEA-LETI add value to executive presentations, including:

1.      "Strengths of Semiconductors in Europe" by Carlo Bozotti, CEO of STMicroelectronics

2.      "Outlook of Electronics for e-Mobility" by Frédéric Barrand, VP of PSA Peugeot Citroën

3.      "Medical Healthcare: How Europe is Well Positioned for this Market" by Diego Olego, Sr. VP, CTO, Philips Healthcare

4.      "Future Telecommunication Applications" by Douglas Gilstrap, Sr. VP, Ericsson

5.      "Technical trends" by Paolo Gargini, Intel Fellow and Group Director of Intel

6.      "MEMS Technology: from Automotive to Consumer Applications" by Frank Melzer, CEO of Bosch Sensortec

7.      A panel discussion focusing on "Semiconductor Manufacturing in Europe" with speakers from LFoundry, NXP, X-Fab, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, and STMicroelectronics.

In addition to presentations on how Europe can leverage its position in advanced research, commercialize R&D achievements, and build on its diverse manufacturing base, company tours are arranged for the participants.

"ISS Europe is a unique opportunity for decision-makers across the entire microelectronics supply chain to meet and collaborate," said Heinz Kundert, president, SEMI Europe. "With key experts in both business and economics, Europe can build a strategy to leverage its strengths."
