Growth requires new focus

Memsstar revels in rapid growth leading to dual focus
Scotland-based memsstar Limited, a global leader in micro-device processing technologies, has reorganised its operations into two business units: one to focus worldwide on current MEMS technology challenges and next-generation devices and the other continuing to deliver cost effective semiconductor processing and equipment solutions to European customers through a distinct business, called pt35.

The new business organisation stems from a recognition of changes throughout global semiconductor and nano-machine markets. The memsstar division is serving the rapidly expanding global MEMS market to build reliable foundations for the next generation of MEMS devices. Using its patented processing system solutions for vapour phase isotropic etch and surface modification, memsstar is developing technically advanced cost-effective and flexible systems to meet production challenges from R&D through to full production. memsstar's systems relieve the pressures on budgets by delivering matchless process control and wide process windows which can be readily scaled for production volumes.

The pt35 division of memsstar Limited has been organised to reach the diverse requirements of the European semiconductor manufacturing industry. In recent year's the European fabs have increasingly looked to remanufactured equipment, spares and services to support the cost effective manufacture of semiconductor, power & MEMS devices for a diverse range of markets. pt35 is now ideally placed to deliver a unique and highly differentiated range of products to the European semiconductor industry.

Peter Connock executive chairman explained, "MEMS manufacturers face different challenges from semiconductor fabs, such as developing increasingly functional and complex devices, mixing MEMS and CMOS in the same fab; and even on the same die. Semiconductor fabs need cost effective solutions that will allow them to gain the maximum possible Return on Investment from their assets. By providing focused products and services tailored to the individual needs of both the MEMS and semiconductor sectors we are now extremely well placed to help both industry segments achieve cost-effective, commercial and competitive processes."

Connock continued, "We are making commercial MEMS successful and competitive. As a global systems and technology supplier, our mission is to facilitate the development of innovative MEMS and semiconductor devices - from R&D through to high yield manufacturing. Designers, developers and manufacturers throughout the world leverage our products and knowledge to make their advanced manufacturing projects successful."
