Future Horizons Award bestowed to student for outstanding work at The University of Dresden
Future Horizons today announces that, in partnership with The University of Dresden, it has awarded a significant sum of money, raised by raffle at the prestigious International Electronics Forum in Dresden earlier this year, to a German Phd student, in recognition of the outstanding quality of his contribution to electronics research.

The Technical University of Dresden handed the Future Horizons Award to PhD student Jonathan Derix on 5th November 2010, rewarding the excellent quality of his dissertation, 'Biocompatible DC current flow MicroElectrode Array', which analysed a technical solution for the measurement and simulation of current flows in the field of cytology. Jonathan was awarded €800 and a certificate.

Future Horizons raised money from the great and the good of the electronics industry at the International Electronics Forum, and donated this money to the University of Dresden. The university in turn presented this money to Jonathan at the university's 'Day of the Faculty', when Dresden PhD students received their diplomas and PhD degrees.

The award's recipient Dr. Derix, who already has a PhD in microelectronics, stated that he was overwhelmed to have received such a prestigious award on the day of his graduation, and that this recognition made his hard work all the more worthwhile.

Future Horizons' CEO Malcolm Penn commented: "I am very impressed with Dr. Derix' work and this award is to show our recognition of the excellent and forward-thinking nature of his PhD research. At Future Horizons we think it is vital to promote emerging talent within the field of electronics, and we value new thought and original, innovative approaches to existing problems. The support of academic talent is crucial to the health and vitality of the future electronics industry."

Malcolm Penn also invited Dr. Derix to next year's forum in Morocco to give him the opportunity to discuss the latest industry developments and share his views with high-level industry players and, of course, to foster his industry contacts.

Next year's International Electronics forum will occur on 4th–6th May in Morocco. Until then Future Horizons will issue its regular Global Semiconductor Monthly Report, keeping the industry updated on all aspects of the semiconductor market.
