Cranking MEMS Technology Up A Gear

MEMS Industry Group (MIG), the industry organisation advancing micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) across global markets, has reaffirmed its engagement in the content of SEMICON West's MEMS conference track, as well as its support of the exposition line-up for SEMICON West 2012, the flagship annual event for the global microelectronics industry.

During the MEMS full-day conference session at SEMICON West, "Taking MEMS to the Next Level: Transitioning to a Profitable High-Volume Business," speakers will explore ways in which MEMS suppliers are adapting manufacturing infrastructure and integration strategies to meet surging market demand.

Over 140 companies and industry partners comprise MIG, including Analog Devices, Applied Materials, BodyMedia, Robert Bosch GmbH, Freescale Semiconductor, GE, Hillcrest Labs, Honeywell, HP, Intel, InvenSense, Interlink Electronics, Kionix, Murata Electronics Oy, OMRON Electronic Components, Qualcomm, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and WiSpry.

MIG also has a presence on the SEMICON West show floor. Joined by member-companies Innovative Micro Technology (IMT), IQE Silicon, n&k Technology, Oxford Instruments and XACTIX, the MIG Pavilion and MEMS lounge are located in the South Hall, Booth 2731 of San Francisco's Moscone Centre.   "MIG is pleased to expand our collaboration with SEMI, to ensure that MEMS has a significant role in the programming, content and exhibition at SEMICON West 2012," said Karen Lightman, managing director, MEMS Industry Group.

"With phenomenal double-digit growth in the MEMS industry, it is clear that MEMS is now in the mainstream. It is therefore critical that we address the remaining commercialization and fabrication challenges to sustaining our growth. Joining many facets of the MEMS supply chain, SEMICON West is an ideal forum for discussing how to take MEMS to the next level."

"With applications and technology developments accelerating, the worldwide MEMS market has never been more dynamic," said Tom Morrow, executive vice president, SEMI. "With MIG's leadership, support and guidance, the MEMS programs at SEMICON West address the critical challenges, issues and solutions that industry stakeholders need to know to be successful in the rapidly evolving MEMS marketplace."
