Apple Buries The Hatchet With HTC In Patent Dispute
All patent litigation between the companies has finally been dismissed
It includes the dismissal of all current lawsuits and a ten-year license agreement. The license extends to current and future patents held by both parties.
Apple has been battling with HTC since 2010. The litigation is regarding various smartphone features. The i-phone giant claimed that HTC phones running Google's Android software had infringed upon patents it held.
Although the terms of the settlement are confidential, it's likely that HTC will be paying Apple for each phone running Android that it sells. It has been reported that this would be between $6 and $8 per phone.
HTC lost a case to Apple in late 2011 at the ITC, but the Taiwanese company was not so despondent and maintained it would still keep the fight going.
"HTC is pleased to have resolved its dispute with Apple, so HTC can focus on innovation instead of litigation," said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.
"We are glad to have reached a settlement with HTC," said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. "We will continue to stay laser focused on product innovation."
