Infineon plans 1000-strong R&D centre in China
More than 1000 employees are expected to join the Xi'an R&D centre by 2007, which will make it one of the largest in Asia. Infineon has an overall expansion plan to increase its headcount in China to more than 3000 people, with the aim of becoming one of the top four semiconductor companies in the country in the next four years. Infineon last year announced plans to invest more than $1.2bn in China.
Infineon Technologies (China) is headquartered in Shanghai and has more than 800 employees. In addition, the company also has a sales and marketing support centre in Beijing, backend manufacturing plant for logic products in Wuxi, as well as centres of competence for chipcard and secure mobile solutions in Shanghai.
Infineon also works with Chinese companies such as SMIC with which it develops and produces standard DRAM memory.
