Developing ultra-precision 3D surfaces
The work will be part of a four-year, $6.5mn UK basic technology research programme beginning April 2004. A research facility is to be established where a multi-process production cycle will be optimised for polishing surfaces with a general 3-D form.
The centre is designed for use by manufacturers of ultra-precision surfaces for microelectronics, future optical systems including extremely large and "overwhelmingly large" telescopes, high resolution optical systems for spacecraft, as well medical and aerospace products.
OpTIC Technium is an $29mn incubator for the opto-electronics industry based in North Wales. OpTIC is expected to create more than 462 high-quality jobs in North Wales and to safeguard 1155 throughout Wales. The 7500m2 site consists of 24 business incubator units, a technology centre with state of the art cleanrooms and a business support unit along with conference and training rooms. OpTIC Technium is scheduled to open in early 2004.
