The company expects further staff additions throughout 2004 with most in engineering and production technician roles. The company has also added some 500m2 of office space with a new mezzanine floor and extended cleanroom facilities for wafer fabrication, test and packaging by around 25%.
Intense supplies application-specific variants of its semiconductor laser technology based on a unique quantum well intermixing (QWI) process for fabricating optical chips. This proprietary process allows multiple optical functions to be fabricated in a single processing stage, for reliable high-yield production.
Example designs of multi-function laser arrays for telecom systems have been produced. This technology has now drawn the attention of OEMs in other areas including remote sensing equipment for defence. Laser array designs for the defence sector are expected to lead to volume production for at least one client later in 2004.
