Company seeks nanotube display commercialisation support

A French company has developed a process to manufacture very large area flexible displays assembled from carbon nanotube-based microCRTs (miniature cathode ray tubes) mounted on a flexible polymer substrate. The company - working through the Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris - is now looking for manufacturing, technical and licensing alliances. A prototype/demonstrator is available for testing.

The low-cost process grows vertical, localised multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in a simple optimised reactor. The CNT growth process separates process parameters to allow for simple and reliable equipment design and process optimisation and control. Patent(s) have been applied for but not yet granted.

Multi-wall CNTs are seen as being particularly suitable for cold-cathode electron emission sources. The large size flexible display is easily manufactured, handled and stored, says the company. Smaller displays could also be produced. The devices were developed jointly by the company and a French public research laboratory.

The type of commercial alliance sought include joint ventures, licences, marketing and financial support. Partners should be able to help in business development and/or be a licensee willing to include the CNT process into their own products. In this case, the company will transfer its know-how and expertise in CNT production.
