Bede targets Asian market with metrology alliance
UK metrology company Bede has formed an alliance with Taiwan-based semiconductor equipment distributor Scientech with the aim of supplying advanced metrology tools to the huge Taiwanese and Chinese semiconductor market.
Although the UK lacks a significant semiconductor industry, in Bede the country has one of the worlds leaders in the field of X-ray metrology, a relatively new technology that promises to boost yield rates in fabs.
The alliance with Scientech marks the latest stage in Bedes expansion into the Asian market. The company has already set up a dedicated Asian division in a bid to establish itself at the heart of the worlds semiconductor industry.
Bede will now be able to take advantage of Scientechs contacts and office network in the region. Formed in 1979, Scientech was the first semiconductor distributor in Taiwan and is now a leading supplier of equipment, instrument, material and outsourcing services to the semiconductor, flat panel display, data storage and scientific instruments industries.
In addition to its Taiwan headquarters, the company has offices in China, Singapore and the US. “Scientech is in an ideal position to give us a strong presence in the critical Asian markets,” said Bede chief executive officer Neil Loxley.
