Swedish equipment maker Micronic Laser Systems made record net sales during 2004 of 839 Swedish Kromer (SEK), almost double 2003’s figure of SEK 428 million (one SEK is worth just over a tenth of a Euro). The company is also back in the black after reporting profits after financial items of SEK 122 in 2004 compared with a SEK194 million loss in 2003. Order intake however fell from SEK 1,086 million to SEK 945 million in 2004.

The results were boosted by a strong fourth quarter. Net sales in the fourth quarter rose to SEK 422 million (190 million) while profits after financial items reached SEK 94 million (-93 million).

Micronic president and chief executive officer Sven Lofquist said that the "excellent" fourth quarter and full-year results helped the company meet its "ambitious" goals.

񓟴 turned out to be a record year in many respects as we doubled our sales year-on-year and surpassed the record sales in 2000 by 20%," he said.

"These earnings enabled us to reach our key financial objective, an operating margin of 15%. We also achieved a gross margin of 56%, which is impressive in view of the weakened dollar."

He want on to say that 2005 "has the potential to be an even better year".
