Dutch lithography giant ASML has licensed chip making behemoth Intel to use some of its lithography patents to design and manufacture advanced masks.
The licensing agreement includes ASML’s Scattering Bar technology, which helps improve chip yields. This technology is already used by 20 major chip makers and foundries, the company said.
"We are proud to have the world’s leading chip maker gain rights to some of our patent portfolio," said ASML president and chief executive officer Eric Meurice.
The deal with Intel is a significant boost to ASML’s plan to conquer the US market.
