Infineon and Rambus strike patent deal
Number one European chip maker Infineon Technologies and US memory maker Rambus have reached an agreement settling all claims between them and licensing the Rambus patent portfolio for use in Infineon products.

Under the deal, Infineon will pay Rambus a quarterly fee of US$5.85 million in exchange for a worldwide license to use Rambus's existing and future patents in its memory products.
The agreement also provides Infineon with an option to acquire certain other Rambus licenses. Infineon has simultaneously granted Rambus a fully paid perpetual license for memory interfaces.
In addition to the licenses, the two companies have agreed to immediately end all pending litigation and have released each other from all existing legal claims.
The agreement runs from November 2005 until November 2007. Thereafter, Infineon will make additional quarterly payments to total no more than US$100 million.
