European Semiconductor Industry Association figures paint a positive picture of the industry.

The European Semiconductor industry continues to be a solid growth marker for the global market, according to figures released by the European Semiconductor Industry Association.

The semiconductor market recorded a ro bust growth in November. The typical year-end seasonal strength was reflected by healthy growth in sales of computer chips and electronic components used in wire less handsets. Month on month, the growth in the European market topped the rest of the world in October and November, so the prospect for the fourth quarter remains positive.

European Semiconductor sales in November 2004 amounted to US$3.609 billion according to the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics ( W S T S ), up 4.2% versus the previous month. This corresponds to a 14.6% increase compared to the same month last year. On a year-to-date basis , semiconductor sales increased by 22.8% ve rsus the same period in 2003. The exchange rate of the euro compared to the US dollar has a significant impact on the growth data at this time.

Measured in euros, semiconductor sales in November were 2.878 billion, an increase of 2.1% versus the previous month and an increase of 5.4% on the same month a year ago. On a year-to-date basis, semiconductor sales increased by 11.7% compared with the same period in 2003.
