Infineon has introduced a new family of application-specific 16-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) that it believes will strengthen its position in the market for general MCUs.
This market – which includes everything from industrial control applications like robotics to network and electrical drive systems – is forecast to grow by around two thirds to more than US$22 billion a year over the next four years.
Infineon says that its new 16-bit MCU range achieves performance levels that match the 32-bit MCUs currently used in many of these applications.
