Semiconductor equipment maker Applied Materials has announced that it has settled a lawsuit against rival Semiconductor Products Manufacturing (SPM).
As part of the settlement, SPM has agreed to pay an up-front fee and ongoing royalties for a license to use Applied’s patent for a chemical mechanical polishing technology based on multi-layer rings.
Prior to the settlement, a court had ruled that SPM infringed Applied’s patent by selling certain new and refurbished chemical mechanical planarisation products.
