Worldwide semiconductor equipment bookings amounted to US$3.6 billion in January, according to market analyst VLSI. The figure was flat compared with December and 10% down on January 2004.

Global semiconductor equipment revenues meanwhile fell 10% in January compared with December to US$4.1 billion but were 14% higher than the same period last year.

The book-to-bill ratio for January was 0.88 - a slight improvement from the November-December period but still below parity. January is typically a slow month because it straddles the Christmas season and Asia’s Lunar New Year.
