Hynix embroiled in patent violation litigation
The decision by a California court in favour of Rambus paves the way for the US company to pursue Hynix for compensation. The court decided that Hynix had violated 29 claims related to four Rambus patents, throwing out five of six motions filed by Hynix challenging the claims. The court also decreed that a further 11 claims would have to be tried in court.
The case is due to go to court in March. Rambus senior vice president and general counsel John Danforth said: "This summary judgement of infringement is great news and a major step forward towards our goal of being fairly compensated for our innovations." Rambus has also sued Infineon, Micron and Siemens over alleged patent infringements.
Meanwhile, Mosaid is taking legal action against Hynix over alleged violations of US patents related to DRAM circuit inventions. The company has filed a suit with the US district court for the Eastern District of Texas and has employed a top US lawyer - Jones Day - to represent it in the case.
