Gloves off in Qualcomm and Maxim dispute
Soon after the court’s decision, Qualcomm published a press release stating that the court had "issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting Maxim from any ‘current and future acts misappropriating trade secrets of Qualcomm’".
Qualcomm senior vice president and general counsel Louis Lupin was quoted in the release as saying: "We appreciate the court’s swift action to prevent further injury to Qualcomm and to limit Maxim’s competitive use of confidential information that Maxim has obtained by its unfair practices."
But just a day later, California-based Maxim issued its own press release, giving a completely different interpretation of the court’s decision.
The release stated: "The district court found that Qualcomm had not shown any alleged trade secrets were used in Maxim products and therefore denied the request to halt the development or sale of Maxim products."
A court case covering Qualcomm’s patent violation allegations against Maxim is due to start in late June, while a counterclaim by Maxim against Qualcomm is due to go to court later in the year."
