Equipment sales up in Dec

Global semiconductor equipment bookings recovered after a slow November to grow by 15% in December, says market analyst VLSI. Billings also rose, by 12%, during the month.
But there ends the good news. Bills showed no improvement during the month, remaining stuck at 0.84. Capacity utilisation meanwhile fell and VLSI expects it to continue falling into February, in line with seasonal trends.
“The business is expected to remain slow in January as most customers wait for Chinese New Year to clear before making any critical decisions,” said a VLSI spokesman.
