New set-top box chip

Geneva-based chip maker STMicroelectronics and Atlanta-based set-top box company Scientific-Atlanta have announced that they are in full production with a jointly developed integrated cable set-top box chip.
Geneva-based chip maker STMicroelectronics and Atlanta-based set-top box company Scientific-Atlanta have announced that they are in full production with a jointly developed integrated cable set-top box chip.

The new Atlas system-on-chip (SoC) is a production-ready custom integrated circuit for use in high-definition advanced set-tops.

It contains over 56 million transistors and provides high-definition, digital-video recording and other video-processing, including the ability to watch more than one channel at the same time on different screens.
