French silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafer maker Soitec has announced record sales for both the fourth quarter and the 2004/2005 full year, thanks to an upsurge in demand for SOI. The company now expects its wafer sales in the 2005/2006 year to outperform forecast SOI market growth of 40%.
Soitec's fourth quarter sales of Euro 40.6 million were up 56% year-on-year and 27.5% sequentially, while full year sales leapt by 57.6% on the previous year to Euro138.9 million. The sales growth is even more impressive given that the dollar weakened against the Euro by around 5% during the year.
The company said that 300mm wafers accounted for 38% of its total wafer sales in the fourth quarter, compared with 32% for the full year, suggesting that the move towards 300mm is gathering momentum.
