Awards
Shigeo Takayama, chairman of Hakuto, received the 2004 SEMI Global Leadership Award. The award recognises commitment and contributions to the semiconductor equipment and materials industry.
Stanley T Myers, president and CEO of SEMI, comments: "During the 1980s, when there was trade friction between the semiconductor industries in Japan and the USA, he helped bridge the divide by championing the SEMI International Trade Partners Conference."
Takayama founded Hakuto in 1953 in Tokyo. The company grew from a small trading company dealing with importation and re-sale of crystal ore - to a global enterprise that distributes a range of electronics products, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, technical services and industrial chemicals. In 1987, Takayama was the first Japanese member to serve on the board of directors of SEMI. After 12 years of service, he became an emeritus member of the board.
