The MT9V022 has enhanced near infrared (NIR) sensitivity (greater than 40% quantum efficieny at 850nm) and high dynamic range. The MT9V022 is targeted at "scene understanding" needs - both interior and exterior - of the automotive industry and other low-cost embedded scene processing applications.
The 1/3-inch monochrome (or colour) low-power wide-VGA image sensor features an active pixel array format of 750x480pixels designed to capture a "letter-box" image. The 6.0x6.0micron pixels feature an advanced programmable piecewise linear architecture, enabling high dynamic range (greater than 110dB), which simultaneously captures useable information in both bright sunlight and shadowed regions.
The MT9V022 performs at 60 frame-per-second (fps) at full resolution for stop-motion image-capture (up to 200fps at lower resolutions) with the flexibility of either 10- or 8-bit parallel or serial LVDS data output.
The device further has an extended operating temperature range of from -40degreesC to +85degreesC, and the dark current measurement rates only 10% saturated signal at +85degreesC.
Curtis Stith, director of Micron's Emerging Markets group specialising in the automotive sector, reports: "We've collected design requirements from some of the world's leading engineers who are designing sophisticated equipment to enhance the driving experience and protect vehicle occupants. Equipped with that knowledge, we've striven to create a single imaging sensor delivering the market's most robust feature set."
Typical automotive applications include lane departure warning and guidance products, driver drowsiness detection systems, occupant sensing equipment for passenger and driver "smart air-bag" deployment, blind spot detection cameras (front, back and side systems) and general security and driver convenience.
