German high power semiconductor producer eupec has issued its first complete product family complying with the European Union guidelines on Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS, 2002/95/EG) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE, 2002/96/EG).
"With this we are well ahead of time regarding the realisation date 1st July 2006 demanded in the EU Guidelines", says Dr Thomas Licht, project leader in charge at eupec for "Green Products". RoHS bans the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, polybromide biphenyl (PBB) and polybromide diphenyl ether.
Eupec's insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) EasyPIM, EasyPACK, EasyBRIDGE and EasyDUAL products are used in industrial applications, covering also consumer air conditioning and washing machines.
The majority of the eupec product range already complies with the EU Guidelines in terms of mercury, cadmium, polybromide biphenyl or polybromide dipenyl ether. Lead and hexavalent chromium materials are only contained in a few products and only in small quantities. Eupec is a 100% subsidiary of Infineon Technologies.
