Mergers & acquisitions

Renesas Technology's 150mm front-end fab in Chitose, Japan, is to be transferred to Mitsumi Electric under a basic agreement between the companies.
Renesas Technology's 150mm front-end fab in Chitose, Japan, is to be transferred to Mitsumi Electric under a basic agreement between the companies. Both companies will take necessary procedures for the business transfer in December 2004.

The facility produces microcontrollers on 0.35-0.20micron processes, which are increasingly failing Renesas' network chip markets. By contrast, Mitsumi Electric is developing analogue-digital components that can be produced at Chitose. In addition, Mitsumi considers foundry business to be an important part of its operation. After the transfer, Chitose will continue to produce foundry products for Renesas and its local subsidiary.

Eastman Kodak has completed its acquisition of the Imaging business of National Semiconductor, which developed and manufactured complimentary metal oxide semiconductor image sensor (CIS) devices. Under the agreement, Kodak has acquired certain assets, including intellectual property and equipment, and has hired approximately 50 employees who previously supported National's Imaging business. The Imaging business from National Semiconductor is now a part of Kodak's Image Sensor Solutions (ISS) organisation.
