TSMC's chief technology officer, Dr Chenming Hu, is to resign on July 20, 2004, in order to resume his academic career. The CTO office will be merged into TSMC's research and development organisation headed by Dr Shang-Yi Chiang, senior vice-president of Research and Development. Prior to joining TSMC, Dr Hu held the chancellor's professor chair at the University of California at Berkeley, USA.
