Mergers & acquisitions
RF Micro Devices (RFMD) has completed the acquisition of Silicon Wave, a supplier of Bluetooth solutions for wireless personal area networks (WPANs). RFMD is currently ramping volume production of Silicon Wave's Bluetooth components for handsets manufactured by a tier-one handset maker. In addition to handsets, the company's Bluetooth products are in use supporting multiple applications, including headsets, printers and PC peripherals.
Silicon Wave's Bluetooth product portfolio includes single-chip CMOS radio processors (including radio modem and digital baseband functions), as well as stand-alone CMOS radio modem solutions. The CMOS Bluetooth radio processors have an architecture that does not require external Fash memory or external RF components, reducing costs and size.
