Data for November 2005 shows a positive result for semiconductor sales in Europe (3.2% growth against +1.7% worldwide) according to a report by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organisation, the European Semiconductor Industry Association. (EECA-ESA) reports.

Good performance was recorded in the product categories traditionally stronger in Europe, with Microcontrollers growing sequentially 2.9% (against a decline of 0.3% worldwide) and Microprocessors, growing 6.2% (against a 0.4% growth reported worldwide).

In line with other regions, Flash memory products continue strong growth, +8% sequentially for Europe. This figure, combined with healthy growth in Communication specific ICs, suggest that mobile communication is among the factors driving this result.

Semiconductor sales into Europe in November 2005 amounted to $3.531 billion according to WSTS, up 3.2% versus the previous month. This corresponds to a -2.0% decline compared to the same month last year. On a year-to-date basis, semiconductor sales increased by 0.3% versus the same period in 2004.

The exchange rate of the euro compared to the US$ has again an impact on the growth data. Measured in euros, semiconductor sales in November 2005 were 2.931 billion euros, up 4.7% on the previous month and up 2.0% versus the same month a year ago. On a year-to-date basis, semiconductor sales show a decline of 0.9% in euros versus the same period in 2004.

On a worldwide basis, semiconductor sales in November 2005 were $20.401 billion, up 1.7% versus the previous month. This results in an increase of 7.2% versus the same month in 2004 and on a year-to-date basis it results in a further improved growth rate of 6.2%.
