Axcelis Technologies, Inc. announced the opening of a new Technology Centre in Beijing, China. The new operation complements Axcelis' extensive Asian infrastructure, including its China headquarters in Shanghai. The Technology Centre also gives customers located in the Beijing region complete access to Axcelis' market-leading equipment, services and support.

Home to some of China's most advanced semiconductor manufacturing fabs, Beijing is one of the fastest growing regions in China's burgeoning semiconductor industry. The new Beijing centre is equipped to help customers with equipment and applications expertise, training and advanced process development, productivity-enhancing upgrades and spare and consumables parts management.

Eric Hsu, Axcelis' vice president of Asia customer operations, commented, "For more than two decades, Axcelis has helped China's semiconductor industry grow by evolving with customer needs and building on our rich Eaton Semiconductor heritage. The opening of our Beijing centre enables us to provide stronger support to customers and demonstrates Axcelis' commitment to supporting customer needs in this fast-growing market."

In addition to its operations in Beijing and Shanghai, Axcelis maintains a strong local presence in Tianjin, Suzhou and Wuxi. Axcelis also has facilities throughout the Asia-Pacific region, with direct offices in Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Japan. The last major expansion of Axcelis' presence in China came in 2002, when it acquired the semiconductor equipment division of Tritek International, one of China's leading capital equipment distribution and support firms.
