The formation of the International Alliance of Nanotechnology Regions (IANRegions), a not for profit organization dedicated to creating and sustaining a global network of nanotechnology hubs was announced today at Semicon Europa. Founding IANRegions Network Partners include the Center for Economic Growth, Jemi UK and Jemi France. All are not for proft economic development or trade entities dedicated to supporting nanotechnology industries in their respective regions.

The primary focus of the IANRegions Network will be to support the growth of nanotechnology industries through the establishment of public and private sector best practices for workforce development, education, technology acceleration and regulatory frameworks. IANRegions Network Partners will also work to grow industry small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through trade service support and referrals throughout the network.

"We feel strongly that nanotechnology industries are vital to our regional economy and want to support the industry as best we can," said Kelly Lovell, CEO of the Center for Economic Growth. "Being a partner in IAN Regions will provide CEG member companies opportunities to connect and do business more efficiently on a global basis."

"UK companies are at the forefront of advances in MEMS technologies that we'd like to see adopted on a global scale. IANRegions Network provides a new level of access to global marketing and funding opportunities for our companies," said Iain Hyslop, Chairman of JEMI UK. "Additionally, by partnering with other regional organizations we can learn how to better serve our member companies."

"I completely agree with Iain's comments," said Jacques Perrocheau, CEO of JEMI France. "Nanoelectronics opens new market opportunities: mechatronics, optronics etc., which may allow our SMEs to find new niches and new collaborations."

"There are more than 20 regional hubs of nanotechnology activities across the globe. Those of us involved in the nanoelectronics and nanosystems industries recognize this intuitively because when we travel for business, we all travel to the same places," said LaMar Hill, CEO and founder of IANRegions.

"I've always felt that there was a real need to create a more formal connection between these nanotechnology regions—both for the advancement of the industry overall and to help industry SMEs market their technologies globally," explained Hill.
