Toshiba made major gains in the first quarter from the NAND flash memory market at the expense of its close rivals, according to a preliminary market-share ranking from iSuppli Corp.

Toshiba made major gains in the first quarter from the NAND flash memory market at the expense of its close rivals, according to a preliminary market-share ranking from iSuppli Corp.

Number-two NAND flash supplier Toshiba achieved revenue of $801 million in the first quarter, up 18 percent from $680 million in the fourth quarter. The Japanese chip supplier's NAND flash market share rose to 24.6 percent in the first quarter, up 5.4 percentage points from 19.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2005.
