Freescale expands presence in Romania
Freescale Semiconductor Romania is one of the company's most strategically important operations in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. The software development centre in Romania is generating patentable concepts and solutions for software technologies that will help enable the communications and information technology markets.
The company has doubled its headcount in Romania over the past 12 months to more than 200 software engineers and support staff. This growth in personnel is expected to continue at a similar pace in 2006 and beyond. This year also marks the sixth anniversary of Freescale's growing presence and investment in Romania.
"Romania offers a talented pool of software and systems engineers, and Freescale is fortunate to be able to tap into that world-class talent and expand our presence in the Romania market," said David Perkins, senior vice president and general manager of Freescale's Networking and Computing Systems Group. "Freescale's software developer team in Romania is playing a critical role in the company's strategic focus on mobile telephony, communications processing and embedded software solutions. I am very pleased to have Adrian Purcarea, director and country manager of Freescale Semiconductor Romania, on board to lead the team."
Purcarea is a graduate of the Cybernetics faculty from the Academy of Economic Studies Bucharest. He holds a post-graduate degree in business administration, as well as a master's in business administration from the Romanian-Canadian MBA program. Prior to joining Freescale, Purcarea was the deputy general manager of the largest Romanian company in the information technologies sector.
"The expansion of Freescale's software development centre in Bucharest is a major milestone in Romania's evolution as a hub of high-technology research and development," said Purcarea. "We have assembled a world-class team of software engineers driving innovation and generating patents around advanced mobile and embedded platforms. Their software breakthroughs are enabling next-generation consumer electronics products and communications infrastructure solutions that touch countless lives around the world."
