WSTS European sales up in August

European semiconductor sales showed a positive development in August over July. Shipments of Microprocessors, under the spotlight in the previous months, reported a good result, in Europe as well as across other Regions.
European semiconductor sales showed a positive development in August over July. Shipments of Microprocessors, under the spotlight in the previous months, reported a good result, in Europe as well as across other Regions.

The memory market showed an overall positive figure, resulting from the upswing of DRAM products but on the other hand influenced by a moderate slowdown of Flash memories. Also the automotive specific applications reported a weaker result.

The good performance of digital consumer, DSP and communication analogue semiconductors show the positive dynamics of related applications markets such as cellular phones and digital TV.

European Semiconductor sales in August 2006 amounted to US$ 3.214 billion according to the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), up 1.3% versus the previous month. This corresponds to a 4.4% growth compared to the same month last year. On a YTD basis, semiconductor sales declined in 2006 by 0.3% versus the year 2005.

The exchange rate of the Euro compared to the US$ continues its impact on the growth data in the recent month. Measured in Euro, semiconductor sales in August were EURO 2.527 billion, up 1.1% on previous month and up 0.1% versus the same month a year ago. On a YTD basis, semiconductor sales show in 2006 a growth of 2.0% versus 2005.

On a worldwide basis, semiconductor sales in August were US$ 20.542 billion, up 2.1% versus the previous month. This results in an increase of 10.5% versus the same month in 2005 and on a YTD basis it results in a growth rate of 8.7%.
