Celoxica and EBV Elektronik combine ESL design with supply chain integration
With increasing demand for system level solutions to complex SOPC design the companies will deploy their complementary expertise targeting applications where high density logic is closely coupled with microprocessor technology such as Nios II or DSP processors. EBV already provides end-to-end supply chain integration for Altera customers across Europe and Celoxica will apply its ESL knowledge and expertise in conjunction with EBV technical staff. Initially focusing on design projects in the UK, the companies intend to scale the agreement to a pan European level.
"EBV continues to meet the requirements of customers who present us with ever more challenging, complex and time critical projects," said Graeme Cathrall, General Sales Manager for EBV in the UK and Ireland. "By tapping into Celoxica's system level design tools and know-how we can offer a complete design solution from the system specification to chip level implementation."
One of the highest growth areas for SOPC design is in imaging and video based applications, such as machine vision, broadcast and HDTV. These application types are characterized by the need for real-time performance, their algorithm complexity, time-to-market pressures and volume production. ESL design expressly addresses these challenges and imaging will form the initial application focus for Celoxica and EBV.
Sandeep Ram, vice president of European sales for Celoxica commented, "ESL design for FPGA is being increasingly applied to volume production and it makes sense to work closely with a distribution specialist who is set up to fulfill that demand. As FPGA devices become more powerful, they are being integrated into the heart of the system and ESL delivers the design efficiencies and system capabilities that customers must have."
