Mentor Graphics Corporation announced that it is enabling Silicon Valley Technical Institute (SVTI) to develop and offer a broad range of continuing education courses based on Mentor's tools in the areas of design for manufacturability (DFM), nanometer IC design, physical verification and integrated systems design. Since 1985, Mentor Graphics has aimed to provide students, worldwide, with EDA tools in order to aid them with tool proficiency upon graduation, and help them develop relationships with the instructing engineering colleges and universities. Inherent in Mentor's mission is providing continuing education beyond graduation so that working electronics professionals can update their skills and gain additional expertise in the latest design and manufacturing methodologies. Working within the strategy of Mentor Graphics' Higher Education Program, SVTI has incorporated Mentor tools in courses ranging from nanometer IC design and DFM to design of digital VLSI design and printed circuit boards (PCB). Courses range from one-day workshops to three-month in-class courses that include labs. Initial class sessions have trained over 50 engineering professionals. In addition, SVTI is currently working with Mentor Graphics to develop additional training programs based on Mentor tools that support such areas as advanced functional verification and IC layout and verification. "Mentor Graphics tools are deployed in critical design steps and flows addressed by SVTI training programs," said Dr. Ali Iranmanesh, Chairman and Founder, Silicon Valley Technical Institute. "Mentor Graphics tools enable our students to obtain the sought-after skills needed to be productive and current in today's fast moving electronics industry." "Continuing education is a major contributor to the health of the electronics industry. As silicon and system technology advances, continuing education ensures that engineers remain experts in today's design tools and methodologies," said Ian Burgess, Development Manager, Higher Education Program, Mentor Graphics. "We are delighted to collaborate with SVTI to provide engineers training in order to help companies and professionals develop the skills that allow them to tackle problem solving."
