The European semiconductor market, as reported by WSTS, grew 3,4% in October, compared to the previous month, on a 3 month rolling average. This was mainly driven by Microprocessors, suggesting positive developments in the computer segment.

These figures stress that sales for Microprocessors have accelerated in this second part of the year, after having experienced a decline in the second quarter of 2006. Following a significant increase experienced in September over August, DRAM sales grew again in October. Apart from computer, consumer and automotive are the segments contributing to the market performance this month.

European Semiconductor sales in October 2006 amounted to US$ 3.527 billion according to the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), up 3.4% versus the previous month. This corresponds to a 3.1% growth compared to the same month last year. On a YTD basis, semiconductor sales increased in 2006 by 0.2% versus the year 2005.

The exchange rate of the Euro compared to the US$ widens its impact on the growth data in the recent month. Measured in Euro, semiconductor sales in October were EURO 2.771 billion, up 3.6% on previous month and down 1.1% versus the same month a year ago. On a YTD basis, semiconductor sales show in 2006 a growth of 1.0% versus 2005.

On a worldwide basis, semiconductor sales in October were US$ 21.895 billion, up 2.5% versus the previous month. This results in an increase of 9.2% versus the same month in 2005 and on a YTD basis it results in a growth rate of 8.8%.
