Sales of semiconductors dip in February
In the context of worldwide semiconductor sales declining in February, the European market looks relatively less impacted than the market in the other Regions, although decreasing 4.4% over January.

This negative trend is observed across most of the product categories, namely microprocessors, flash memories, discretes, sensors and actuators, optoelectronics and DSP. Microcontrollers and standard linear showed a moderate growth. DRAM sales reported a decline, but in line with the worldwide figures. These results reflect the usual seasonal weakness, combined with the ongoing inventory correction in the supply chain.
Looking at application specific circuits, semiconductor used in communication, automotive , industrial applications and computers performed better in Europe compared to the other regions, while consumer specific integrated circuits grew slower than the worldwide average.
European Semiconductor sales in February 2007 amounted to US$ 3.332 billion according to the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), down 4.4% versus the previous month. This corresponds to a 7.2% growth compared to the same month last year. On a YTD basis semiconductor sales increased by 7.2% versus the same period in the year 2006.
The exchange rate of the Euro compared to the US$ increased again its impact on the growth data in the recent months. Measured in Euro, semiconductor sales in February 2007 were EURO 2.544 billion, down 5.0% on previous month and down 2.0% versus the same month a year ago. On a YTD basis semiconductor sales showed a decline of 1.0% versus the same period in the year 2006.
On a worldwide basis, semiconductor sales in February 2007 were US$ 20.090 billion, down 5.9% versus the previous month. This results in a decline of 2.0% versus the same month in 2006 and on a YTD basis it results in a decline rate of 1.0%.
